While the iPhone 4 battery is a big improvementover its predecessors, over term the national capacity will diminish, and youll feel the pressureto buy a brand-new phone, only because it doesnt accommodated a charge like it used to. Heres the large-hearted secret: you can replace thebattery yourself. It simply takes about 10 hours and is waycheaper than buying a whole new phone. Hi, I’m mj with iFixit, and today I’m goingto show you how to oust the artillery on your iPhone 4. This might be the easiest repair you’ll everdo, but in cases where, you’ll want to follow the amend guide on our site.Tool-wise, this fixing couldn’t get much easier. All you’ll need is a Phillips # 00 screwdriver. I’m expending the one from our 26 patch bit driverkit, some plastic opening tools and your permutation battery. Now there is a chance apple didn’t use phillipsscrews on your iPhone. Apple has also been using a 5 point tamperresistant screwing, and if your phone has those, you will want to check out our iPhone 4 liberationkit. It comes with the driver you will need toget those shafts out. The only trick to this repair is to make surethe silent switch is activated and the phone is powered off before “youre beginning”. So to start, I’ll remove these two Phillipsscrews on either side of the dock connector then I’ll push the rear board toward the topedge of the iPhone– It’ll only move around 2 millimeters. After slithering it upward a little, the rearpanel should come off readily. Theres only one nail I need to removeto free the battery, so Im going to remove it and then…Use my iPod opening tool to gently pry upthe artillery connector. Youll want to only pry it from the topand bottom of the connector, and be careful not to lever against the pressure contact. Once that screw is out and the connector isdisconnected, I can remove the antenna contact from the phone and set it aside. Now I can use the plastic pull-tab to removemy old battery. Apple expended an excessive amount of adhesiveon some iPhones, so if youre actually struggling to remove the battery with the pull-tab, tryusing an iPod opening implement to pry up the artillery instead. With the old battery out, I can give the newbattery in; before you connect the battery connector, make sure the minuscule little pressurecontact is in position. Also, clean off all of the metal-to-metalcontact points with windex or some other kind of degreaser before you reassemble your iPhonebecause the lubricants on your digits can cause wireless interference, and with AT& T as yourcarrier you really cant afford that. KIDDING! Not genuinely … After Ive scavenged off my points of contact, Im ready to reassemble my iPhone, and I can get back to playing Angry Birds withoutkilling my artillery. Of direction, you can find the parts and toolsyou’ll need for this and many other repairs at iFixit.com.And if you run into problems during your repairs, there are tons of resources available on the iPhone 4 amend manual page. Thanks for watching, and joyous repairing !.
